Agricultural Scholarship Entries Open Soon

The Upper Clutha A&P Society is reminding its members that entries open soon for applications for a $3000 Agricultural Scholarship.

The annual scholarship has been designed to assist with any education or training that is related to any facet of the Wanaka A&P Show. This year, two successful applicants will receive $1000 a year, for up to three years of study.

The Society, which owns the popular Wanaka A&P Show, hopes that by offering money towards study, recipients eventually return to the Upper Clutha region and use the skills that they have learnt to benefit the industry and community in the area.

Wanaka A&P Show Coordinator Jane Stalker says the scholarship isn’t just aimed at traditional agricultural education: “This scholarship is available for anyone whose course of study would be able to benefit the Show in the future.”

“It could be a photographer who loves capturing the beauty of our rural settings, or an aspiring chef who wants to showcase the region’s amazing food and wine. The scholarship is open to people across the board and we’re really encouraging our members to apply,” she says.

People can apply online: click here. The scholarship is open to all financial members of the Upper Clutha A&P Society as well as their children. A third scholarship is already taken, with the recipient part-way through studies at Otago University.

This will be the sixth year that the scholarship has been offered, and it is part of an ongoing drive by the Wanaka A&P Show to support the Upper Clutha community. This year, a total of $25,000 was given to local clubs and organisations in exchange for helping out at the 2014 Show, plus $60,000 was given in total to the Wanaka Hospice Trust and Community Networks Wanaka after the event.

“The Show is a huge event on the local calendar and it’s important for us to give back to the community. We really value the support that we receive so it’s great to be able to use the opportunity to help out those that give up their time to help us,” Stalker adds.
