Jack Russell Race

Hold onto your hats and grab a front-row seat for the
Jack Russell Race at the Wānaka A&P Show, and a pulse-pounding tradition that kicked off in 1998 takes centre stage.

These pint-sized dynamos are not just cute; they’re competitors extraordinaire, chasing a hare scent with lightning speed to claim the title of the fastest Jack Russell in town.

The history of this canine dash is etched in the Show’s legacy, growing from a quirky idea to a crowd favourite over the years. Judged on their agility and nose-to-ground determination, these four-legged athletes promise a spectacle that’s equal parts heartwarming and heart-stopping. And here’s a fun tidbit to pique your interest: Last year’s winner, a Jack Russell named Jack, clocked in at an astonishing 15 seconds flat, leaving a trail of cheers and paw prints in his wake. Get ready to cheer for your favourite furball and witness a Jack Russell showdown like never before!
