All Breeds Beef Youth Round Up

An exciting event designed to unite young beef enthusiasts from across New Zealand for an immersive, educational, firsthand experience.

Calling all young cattle enthusiasts!

As we celebrate the 90th Wānaka A&P Show, the All Breeds Beef Youth Round Up is back for 2027, giving young people the opportunity to build practical cattle handling and judging skills, learn from experienced mentors and connect with others involved in the beef industry.

Designed for both experienced young cattle handlers and those keen to get involved, the Round Up is a hands-on opportunity to learn, compete and be part of the cattle community at the Wānaka A&P Show.

Get Involved

The Beef Youth Round Up combines practical competition with learning and mentoring.

Participants take part in hands-on cattle handling and stock judging, supported by experienced breeders and industry professionals. It is designed to build confidence in the ring, develop practical skills and encourage the next generation of agricultural leaders.

Round Up entrants will also join the Cattle team on Saturday, working alongside experienced industry and event professionals.

HERDSPERSON CATEGORIES

Class 300 – Senior Herdsperson
18–24 years
Entry fee: $50

Class 301 – Intermediate Herdsperson
13–17 years
Entry fee: $50

Class 302 – Junior Herdsperson
12 years & under
Entry fee: $50

NO ANIMAL? NO PROBLEM

You do not need to own an animal to take part.

Animals can be borrowed, and participants are encouraged to get in touch with the Cattle team if they need assistance finding a suitable animal.

Animals must be under 24 months old.

WANT TO TAKE PART WITHOUT ENTERING THE FULL ROUND UP?

Entry in the full All Breeds Beef Youth Round Up is optional.

Competitors can enter Classes 300–302 individually without entering the full Round Up. This gives you the flexibility to take part at the level that suits you.
