Get behind the scenes at the Wānaka A&P Show with one of our specialised volunteer roles! We’re looking for event assistants, staging and entertainment coordinators, ground operations crew, and health & safety and licensing support.
These roles are a fantastic way to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of event areas, build practical skills, and be part of a passionate team that helps bring this iconic community event to life. Agri Exchange Assistant
Be part of the Gallaway Cook Allan Agri Exchange area, where the rural community comes together to share ideas on innovation and development. Help run our morning sub-events (about 2.5 hours each) on show days, and enjoy the rest of the Show in the afternoons.
We’re looking for friendly, capable volunteers to help ensure the smooth running of our morning breakfast sessions.
- Assisting with setup, pack-down, and smooth event flow
- Greeting presenters and guests
- Working with hospitality to keep things running and tidy

Volunteer Assistant
Be the friendly face that keeps our volunteer team running smoothly! 24 hours over three days – a great insight into the industry for anyone keen to get some experience. You’ll be:
- Checking in with volunteers and making sure they’re where they need to be
- Assisting with role changes, breaks, and last-minute fill-ins
- Helping with sign-in, communication, and daily updates
- Supporting the Volunteer Manager with coordination and logistics
- Jumping in to lend a hand wherever needed
- Perfect for someone friendly, adaptable, and great at keeping people motivated.

Staging Assistant
Help create the vibe. Our Staging Assistants bring atmosphere and flair to key areas around the event. Two full days (Wednesday and Thursday) in the lead-up to the show. You’ll be:
- Assisting with setup and decoration of bars, the President’s Tent, and the Life & Leisure Local Larder
- Helping style spaces with flowers, fabrics, and displays
- Perfect for creative, hands-on people who love making spaces look amazing and want to be part of our set up team!
Entertainment Coordinator
Help host the show musicians and entertainers. You’ll be needed all day Friday and Saturday. A great opportunity for someone keen to break into the events world! You’ll be:
- Assisting with day-to-day event operations
- Helping with entertainment logistics, meet and greats and artist riders
- Liaising with sound and production teams
- Keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes

Ground Ops Team – Two Roles
Join the crew that brings the event to life from the ground up!
Full-time role: 56 hours. From Monday 9th March through to the Show, have the show days off, then help for the two days after.
Part-time role: 32 hours. From Wednesday 11th March and Thursday, off during the Show, then working Sunday and Monday afterward.
You’ll be:
- Setting up signage, fencing, scrim, and equipment
- Assisting with general site prep and layout in the week before the event
- This role suits practically minded, physically fit people who don’t mind plenty of walking!
- Perfect for someone organised, outgoing, and keen to gain real event experience in a fun, fast-paced environment!
Health & Safety Assistant
Assist with keeping the event safe and running smoothly!
15 hours over 3 days (Thurs – Sat.) Mornings only on Show days, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the event afterwards. You’ll be:
- Assisting the Health & Safety Officer with site checks
- Checking trade stall compliance
- Helping monitor safety on setup day (Thursday) and mornings of show days
- Ideal for someone practical, observant, and confident communicating with stallholders – a great way to gain real H&S experience at a major event!
Liquor License Assistant
Help us keep everything compliant and running safely.
Three hours each morning and two hours each afternoon – time to enjoy the Show in between.
You’ll be checking that bars have the correct signage, duty managers in place, soft drinks available, and are meeting all alcohol regulations.
The afternoon shift includes making sure bars have stopped serving at the required time.
Perfect for someone reliable, observant, and steady under pressure.
