The Wānaka A&P Show presents an array of events and competitions over the two-day schedule. Featuring 
more than 500 competitions spanning animal, agricultural and home industry skills, there is something for everyone — 
whether you call town or country home.

Boer Goats

These hardy, docile goats have featured since the earliest Shows, judged across all ages for excellence in breed standards, with their resilience and character proudly celebrated each year.

Cattle

Introduced around the 45-year mark, cattle competitions span 15 classes judged on breeding standards and conformation, with Junior Handler classes building the next generation of breeders.

Dog Trials

A longstanding feature of the Show, dog trials honour the partnership between farmer and dog, with handlers guiding their dogs to move sheep through a challenging course while being judged on both speed and style.

Equestrian

Equestrian competitions have been part of the Show since the beginning, celebrating the bond between horse and rider through classing, hunter, and show jumping events for all levels of experience.

Fleece

A longstanding part of the Show, fleece competitions celebrate fine wool quality through micron, weight, length, and strength—now home to the NZ Fine Wool Supreme Fleece Competition and industry-led testing.

Sheep

A mainstay since the first Show, sheep competitions celebrate top breeding, with entries judged on conformation, wool quality, and overall presentation—including the prestigious NZ Supreme Merino Competition.

Sheaf Tossing

A traditional test of strength, sheaf tossing is a long-standing Show favourite, rooted in early farming days when grain sheaves were manually stacked and thrown.

Home Industry

A cherished part of the Show, Home Industry competitions highlight community creativity across all ages—spanning baking, homebrew, photography, crafts, and more. It’s a vibrant celebration of local skill and imagination.
