Planetary Facts At The Show

The Wānaka A&P Show is taking a big step for the environment by becoming the first event to measure its full “Planetary Facts” – a new way of showing environmental impact that goes beyond carbon and waste. Think of it like a nutrition label, but for the planet: it shows how much carbon, water, waste and other impacts are used compared with what’s considered a fair daily share for a healthy planet.

The results show something simple but important: travel to and from the show creates the biggest environmental impact. That means the way you choose to get here really matters.

When you buy your 2026 tickets, you’ll notice a couple of quick questions about travel. These help the Show understand how people get here and identify new ways to make future events even more sustainable.

How you can help:

  • If you live nearby, walk, bike or use the park-and-ride buses.
  • If you’re travelling from out of town, carpool, or make your trip part of a longer stay to spread out travel impact and enjoy more of Wānaka while you’re here.

The good news? The show itself runs very efficiently, with low impacts across all areas. This year the team is boosting park-and-ride, adding a wash station with commercial dishwashing, and increasing reusable serveware to cut down waste even further.

Together we can keep the Wānaka A&P Show the fun, family-friendly weekend we all love while doing right by the planet.
