Community

Protecting our place, pitching in, and learning as we go

Running an event the size of the Wānaka A&P Show comes with a responsibility – not just to celebrate rural life, but to look after the land, lake, and community that make it all possible. Sustainability is something we keep working on every year, learning along the way and finding better ways to do things.

It’s not always perfect, but every step counts – reducing waste, caring for our environment, and supporting the community spirit that sits at the heart of the Show. From volunteers and local groups to exhibitors, sponsors and visitors, it takes a huge team effort to bring the Show to life, and we’re proud to keep building on that year after year.

Volunteer

It takes a village  – and we’re lucky to have one. Every year, volunteers help create the energy, spirit, and behind-the-scenes magic that make the Wānaka A&P Show what it is. Whether you can give a few hours or a few days, there’s a place for you here.

It’s a chance to meet great people, pitch in, and be part of something the whole community is proud of – all while having a good time doing it. Learn more about volunteering.

Sustainability

At the Wānaka A&P Show, we know events like ours leave a footprint – so we do our best to do our bit. Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and every year we look for practical ways to reduce waste, care for our environment, and support the community that makes the Show possible.

By learning, improving, and working together, we can make a positive difference for the future of the Show and the region we’re proud to call home. Learn more.

Dishwashing Facilities

The Upper Clutha A&P Society invites community groups and event organisers to use the commercial dishwashing facilities, now available year-round within the Wānaka A&P Show Pavilion.

Introduced as part of the 2026 Wānaka A&P Show’s sustainability initiatives, the purpose-built facility helped reduce waste by replacing single-use items with reusable crockery and cutlery during the Show.

The facilities are now available free of charge for local events, fundraisers and community gatherings, helping organisations deliver more practical low-waste events.

This is a shared community resource that benefits the wider Upper Clutha.
