The Upper Clutha A&P Society is proud to acknowledge the support of Queenstown Lakes District Council, whose funding has played an important role in delivering this year’s Wānaka A&P Show with sustainability front of mind.
Council funding this year has been directed toward practical initiatives that reduce the Show’s environmental footprint while improving the experience for exhibitors, competitors, and visitors. This includes support for the Park and Ride service, traffic management, and dishwashing infrastructure.
The Park and Ride and traffic management services help reduce congestion around the Showgrounds, lower vehicle emissions, and improve safety and accessibility on one of the region’s busiest event days. These initiatives support both the local community and the many people who travel to attend the Show.
A key sustainability milestone this year is the introduction of a dedicated dishwashing station. This facility enables the use of reusable crockery and cutlery, significantly reducing single-use waste and the overall environmental footprint of the event.
The dishwashing station has been made possible through combined funding support from Central Lakes Trust and Otago Community Trust, alongside Queenstown Lakes District Council. The station is currently nearing completion and represents a meaningful step toward more sustainable event delivery. Importantly, these purpose-built dishwashing facilities will also be available for other community groups and events to use, creating a lasting asset for the Upper Clutha.
Together, this support reflects a shared commitment to practical sustainability and to ensuring the Wānaka A&P Show continues to evolve in a way that benefits both people and place.
