In 2027, we are proud to celebrate the 90th Wānaka A&P Show — a milestone that reflects generations of competitors, exhibitors, volunteers and supporters who have helped shape the Show over the years.

As we prepare for this special Show, we are proud to carry that history forward, representing those who came before us while welcoming the next generation of competitors.

Livestock and equestrian competitions remain at the heart of the Wānaka A&P Show, bringing together our rural community for two days of competition, connection and celebration.

TAKE YOUR PLACE IN THE RING

For generations, the Wānaka A&P Show has brought skill, grace and friendly competition to the Showgrounds.

For our 90th Show, we’re inviting riders to take their place in the ring for two days of equestrian competition, set against the backdrop of Wānaka.

From showing to the speed and precision of show jumping, our schedule caters for the seasoned equestrian enthusiast and first-time rider alike.

Prepare your horse, choose your classes, and we look forward to welcoming you to the ring.

Cattle

BE PART OF OUR 90TH SHOW

Cattle competition has long been part of the Wānaka A&P Show, bringing breeders, exhibitors and quality stock into the ring.

As we celebrate our 90th Show in 2027, we invite cattle competitors to be part of that history. Bring your best stock, represent your breeding programme and compete alongside fellow exhibitors from across the region and further afield.

All Breeds Beef Youth Round Up

The All Breeds Beef Youth Round Up gives young cattle enthusiasts the opportunity to build practical cattle handling and judging skills, learn from experienced industry professionals and compete alongside others with an interest in the beef industry. Held on Friday 12 March 2027, the Round Up includes Herdsperson, Beef Handler and Stock Judging classes across Junior, Intermediate and Senior age groups.

Dog Trials

PUT YOUR WORKING PARTNERSHIP TO THE TEST

The Dog Trials bring one of rural New Zealand’s most valued working partnerships into the heart of the Wānaka A&P Show, continuing a tradition dating back to 1867.

Handlers and their dogs put their stockmanship, communication and control to the test as they guide sheep through a challenging obstacle course. Judged on both time and style, the competition showcases the skill, strategy and teamwork between handler and working dog.

The legacy continues as competitors vie for the coveted Willis Scaife Memorial Trophy, celebrating generations of skilled handlers and the working dogs that remain an essential part of farming life.

Fleece

CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE IN WOOL

Wool has played an important role in the agricultural history of our region, and the Fleece competition continues that tradition at the Wānaka A&P Show.

The competition gives growers the opportunity to showcase the quality of their wool, with fleeces assessed and recognised by experienced judges.

Since 2023, the Wānaka A&P Show has also been home to the New Zealand Fine Wool Supreme Fleece Competition, where some of New Zealand’s finest fleeces are judged using a combination of industry testing and expert appraisal, including micron, clean fleece weight, length and strength.

In 2027, the competition returns as part of our 90th Show, celebrating the quality, skill and dedication behind New Zealand’s fine wool industry.

Sheep competitions have been part of the Wānaka A&P Show since its early days, reflecting the importance of sheep farming and breeding to our region.

The 2027 Sheep competition gives breeders and exhibitors the opportunity to bring forward their best stock, showcase their breeding programmes and compete alongside others who share their commitment to quality sheep.

As we celebrate our 90th Show, we look forward to welcoming returning exhibitors and the next generation of sheep breeders into the judging ring.
